Checking Inbound Links with Yahoo! Site Explorer

Google is the first to tell us that links from relevant and important sites are always a great way to get more traffic and increase your ranking in the search engines. But what about links from new platforms such as Twitter and Facebook?

Popular Googler (and recently clean shaven) Matt Cutts shared his thoughts in a recent video below.

Google treats links the same irrespective of where they come from. Google looks at the reputation of the website you receive links from, not how many sites link to you.

However, Facebook linking can be quite difficult for Google to pick up. Most profiles on Facebook are not public and so Google sometimes will miss a link as they are unable to access the page. There are also some issues with Twitter linking as well which Matt explains in the video.

Getting links from relevant websites can seem a bit daunting and time-consuming. Often it is easier to get links from lower-quality sites, but will this affect your ranking? Google’s Kaspar Szymanski and Susan Moskwa recently explained why poor-quality incoming links will have little effect on your ranking.

If you would like to find out more information on how you can increase your incoming links efforts, then check out our 5 simple link building tips. Alternatively, if you don’t have the time to build your incoming links yourself, you can consider our link building service which can help to improve your ranking.
